“Vyshyvanka in Colors and Light”: An Art Therapy Meeting for Children and Soldiers

With the support of the “Space of Hope” Center and Fr. Norbert Frejek, SJ, the Department of Psychology of the Yurii Fedkowich Chernivtsi National University organized the art therapy event “Vyshyvanka in Colors and Light,” which took place on May 20, 2026, at the city children’s hospital in Chernivtsi.

The event brought together children undergoing medical treatment and Ukrainian soldiers in a shared space of support, warmth, and mutual understanding. Participants painted candle holders inspired by traditional Ukrainian embroidery and created candles — symbols of light, hope, and inner strength.

The meeting became not only a creative workshop but also an important art therapy practice where colors, communication, and shared activities helped create a sense of unity, trust, and belief in goodness. Adults and children worked side by side, supporting one another and sharing sincere emotions.

The special atmosphere of the event was enriched by treats prepared by Halyna Nikonova, owner of the NIKONOVA confectionery, who offered participants gingerbread cookies decorated with traditional vyshyvanka ornaments.

The organizers sincerely thank all partners and participants who help create such moments of light for children and Ukrainian defenders.
