From May 29 to June 1, 2025, near Chernivtsi, in a house run by the Greek Catholic Eparchy of Chernivtsi, a support group met for a series of sessions. This group was recently formed within the framework of the “Space of Hope” initiative. The participants were mothers and wives of soldiers who have died or gone missing on the frontlines of the ongoing war. The group consisted of a dozen women and was supported by two of our therapists.
In addition to group sessions, there was also time for shared cooking and household activities, as well as a pilgrimage to a nearby sanctuary and communal prayer. These women, coping with the loss, disappearance, or injury of their loved ones, and struggling with these painful experiences, found in us a space where they could try to regain strength for continuing life. We are faced with very difficult experiences here, but we are glad to be able to accompany and try to help.
The farm run by the Eparchy of Chernivtsi (still developing!) is located on the site of a former kolkhoz and has been in operation for several years. It serves as a place for retreats, children and youth meetings, and group work. Additionally, the Eparchy operates an agricultural enterprise there and raises goats. And since there are goats, one of the attractions of this place is the very tasty cheese produced on site. Thanks are due to the hosts of this place, especially Fr. Ihor Romanyshyn, who took care of our group.
